Student mental health concerns have risen over the years and according to our recent survey of faculty and staff, the overwhelming majority feel worried that a mental health crisis will occur on their campus. And unfortunately, with suicide being the second leading cause of death among young adults, it’s not a matter of “if” a mental health crisis will occur, but “when.”
In addition to supporting student mental health with preventative resources, institutions need to equip their faculty and staff with crisis and suicide prevention education and training, provide easier pathways to care, and ensure that all members of campus are aware of the existing mental health and crisis resources.
In this roundtable discussion, we will address:
- Common concerns among faculty and staff
- Ways to eliminate departmental silos and foster better communication
- Best practices for bringing crisis and suicide prevention training to campus
- Desired resources for supporting student mental health
We’ll be joined by experts from Colorado State University, East Carolina University, and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention:
