The majority of faculty and staff are worried about student mental health and are regularly being approached by students to discuss mental health and suicidal ideation, according to our latest survey results. How prepared are they? What resources do they wish they had?

We conducted a survey of faculty and staff around crisis and suicide prevention awareness to better understand what they know, what they’re worried about, how often they’re being approached, and if they feel prepared to respond to a mental health crisis or emergency.

Here’s what we learned:

  • 93% are stressed about student mental health concerns
  • 85% are not required to undergo crisis and suicide prevention training
  • 77% wish they had more crisis and suicide prevention training

All faculty and staff play an important role in mental health promotion and crisis and suicide prevention – and it’s crucial that we give them the necessary education, tools, and resources to be able to identify and respond to a mental health crisis appropriately.
