Taking a Team Approach to Mental Health: Best Practices for Collegiate Athletic Departments

Seventy-eight percent of student-athletes feel overwhelmed and contributing factors include financial strain, academic stressors, pressure to perform, and relationship responsibilities. Colleges and universities are starting to recognize the importance of mental health, but few are providing athletic departments with the resources, tools, and services they need to build a comprehensive support system.

In our white paper Taking a Team Approach to Mental Health: Best Practices for Collegiate Athletic Departments, we explore the reasons why student-athletes resist help, what barriers prevent them from accessing quality care, and what ten best practices should be implemented in athletic departments to better support mental wellness.

Contributors include experts from Prevention Strategies, Columbia College, the Toronto Raptors, the University of North Carolina Greensboro, and Mantra Heath.
