A recent UnitedHealthCare survey on student mental health shows that 55% of college students self-reported experiencing anxiety or stress and 41% self-reported experiencing depression – and yet, 58% said they didn’t seek help for mental health concerns in the past year. 

Some reasons? It can be costly, inaccessible, and take too long to connect with a care provider. This is, in part, why so many institutions are turning to digital mental health providers to establish a more robust and diverse mental health offering.

Students are demanding more – more flexible hours, more diverse providers, more services, and more ways to improve their mental health and well-being – and Mantra Health is able to work with institutions to close the existing gaps and meet the students’ evolving needs. 

Widening the pathway to care 

A student may be feeling overwhelmed and stressed, but they may not need one-on-one therapy support or they may not feel comfortable seeking out clinical services. Having a comprehensive, end-to-end solution makes it possible for students to engage in a number of different ways. 

“My favorite aspect of the Mantra partnership is the multiple points of entry for students,” said Gregory H. Krikorian, Dean of Students and Title IX Coordinator at Washington College in our recent case study. “The idea of getting involved in therapy may be overwhelming for some students. Being able to enter at any point and having the opportunity to engage in educational, self-guided content and other resources has opened the door of entry. This was a big driver for us and a reason why we renewed and extended our partnership with Mantra.” 

When institutions expand their mental health support to include services like peer-to-peer support, goal-oriented coaching, and self-guided life skills courses, they are able to appeal to and engage a more diverse population of students. 

High-achieving, goal-oriented students, for instance, might benefit from one-on-one coaching. Student parents with caregiving responsibilities might enjoy connecting with peers who understand their lived experiences. Students preparing for exam season might want to learn and practice stress-reduction strategies through Self Care. 

Reaching the entire student body

Whole Campus Care was designed to support the entire student body. Providing services across the full spectrum of care – from self-guided wellness courses to intensive outpatient programming (IOP) – Mantra Health is able to reach every student and fulfill the range of clinical and non-clinical needs.

The platform is available 24/7 through a free app, so students can get connected anytime, anywhere, including on breaks and during the summer. This makes it easy for students to practice key life skills, like emotion regulation, mindfulness, and stress management. 

“This is a gamechanger,” said Joe Cooper, EdD, Vice Provost for Student Success and Dean of Students at Montana Technological University in our recent case study. Even if they never use the platform, he believes having this resource in students’ back pockets is a success. 

The key to success, of course, is ensuring that students don’t just know about the services, but actually use them – and since launching Whole Campus Care on campuses all across the country Mantra Health has found that utilization rates have dramatically increased, with most campuses reaching above the national average.
